21 January 2026

Wye Gardeners Welcome you to their first talk of the year.

Please arrive at the Small Village Hall shortly after 7.00pm

Jane Scotchmer will talk to us all at 7.30pm on the 21st January about –

The History and Mystery of the Garden Grotto.

Jane Scotchmer will trace the origins of the rockwork grotto from ancient Greek shrine to must-have garden feature in Renaissance Italy and then onto England.

Grottoes not only reflect their garden home but the cultural, scientific, social and artistic developments of their time.  Many historical ones survive in Europe, and a good number are open to the public. Fortunate visitors will enter another world, that may include such wonders as walls encrusted with shells and minerals, water features and lush greenery, or statues and strange rock formations emerging out of the ghostly gloom.

Why not join the society and come to all of our talks for free, its only £15 for the year.

Otherwise we charge £5 for each talk if you are not a member.

We hope you will join us in January.

As usual there will be a raffle after the talk followed by refreshments.
